After three months, the period for submitting photos to the 5th Patagonia Photo Contest came to a close last week and now it’s time to pick the winners. Patagon Journal is pleased to announce the 10 finalists in each of the four categories: Nature, Climate Change, Travel and Culture, and Outdoor Sports.

Forty photos altogether, from now until December 1, you can vote for your favorite on our website here.

Ever since our first contest was organized in 2012, we have always been impressed with the photos we receive, and this time was no exception. Without doubt, the contest theme centered around the big and beautiful region of Patagonia in Chile and Argentina provides an incredible canvass for photographers. Thank you so much to all the participants for their great images and we encourage everyone to spend time looking at the entire gallery of contest photos here.

Now, you can help one of these talented photographers win the Reader’s Choice Award and it’s prize: a kayak and trekking trip on Chiloe Island for 2 days for 2 persons with tour operator Chiloe Natural along with a stay for 2 nights at Ocio Territorial Hotel, a 5-star hotel near the city of Castro.

You may vote for different photos every day but are allowed just 1 vote per day.

Meantime, the panel of judges – John Weller, Claudio Vidal, Nicolás Piwonka, Chantal Henderson, Romina Bottazzi and Pablo Valenzuela – will decide the overall winners of the contest, selecting a first and second place for each category, and three honorable mentions. They will also determine the Patagonia Photographer of the Year award, which will be awarded to the grand prize winner from among the four 1st place winners of the categories.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we will not physically hold a photo exposition as we have done in previous years, but we’re excited to announce that an exposition featuring the 40 finalist photos will be on display for 4 months in Fundacion Telefonica Chile’s online gallery. Utilizing virtual reality technology that provides an exceptional visual experience, people from all over the world will be able to enjoy these tremendous photos from anywhere.

A special online event to launch the exposition along with an award ceremony is planned for January (the exact date is to be determined).
