Patagon Journal announces the launch of Patagonia Photo Contest 2023. Founded in 2012, this is the sixth version of the photo contest and the prizes this year are better than ever!
There are four categories focused on images from Chilean and Argentine Patagonia: Wildlife, Landscape, Culture, and Outdoor Adventure. The winner of the grand prize – the Patagonia Photographer of the Year – will win a trip for 6 days to explore the wildlands of Aysen Patagonia with tour operator Patagonia Big Five.
This year, we also have a new, multi-format international category focused on the conservation and restoration of the world's last wild places in which participants can enter with either images or a short video taken from any country. Among the prizes for the winner of the Last Wild Places award is a 3-day hiking trip on the “W” trail of Torres del Paine National Park with Chile Nativo.
The winner of the public vote in April will receive a 3-night stay at one of the Explora hotels in Patagonia National Park or Torres del Paine National Park.
There are still great other prizes this year from a host of other sponsors, such as gift cards from the Patagonia of Chile; photo books from Puelo Patagonia, Rewilding Chile and Parque Patagonia Argentina; camera gear from the Andes Photo store; map guides from AndesHandbook; and lodging at Península Bahía Catalina and Casa Balmaceda.
Our panel of judges this year is once again high level, with five renowned photographers with a shelf full of awards or books to their name: Linde Waidhofer, Tomas Munita, Colin Henderson, Dario Podesta, and Pablo Valenzuela. The panel also includes two environmental leaders: Sofia Heinonen of Rewilding Argentina, and Alex Muñoz of National Geographic Pristine Seas.
The contest is open to professional and amateur photographers. Deadline for receiving submissions is March 31, 2023.
