Expolagos Patagonia began 10 years ago, and is now the most important travel trade event in the region. Its founder and CEO shares the history of the event and its plans for the future.

When the Caulle volcano erupted in southern Chile in 2013, we could not imagine then the devastating consequences it would have for the surrounding inhabitants, as well as for the airline and tourism industry in general. The ash spread throughout South America's atmosphere, even reaching the United States. Flights were cancelled due to the risk of ingestion of ash particles in the engines. Hotel reservations throughout southern Chile and Argentina were cancelled. Many areas were covered with volcanic dust. The months that followed were very hard.
The locals – with the help of shovels, other tools and a lot of love for their land – undertook a titanic task to clean up their villages, towns and cities.
Once the daily life in this area was restored, a huge campaign had to be launched to promote this area to the world. The aim was to captivate and win back tourists so that they would choose to travel to Patagonia once again.
That is how in 2014 Expolagos Patagonia was born, the most important bi-national travel trade fair in the south of the world. With the support of the airlines Sky Airline from Chile, Avianca from Colombia and AirEuropa from Spain, the organizers invited a hundred tourism companies, travel agents, event organizers and specialized press from all over the world. The first edition of the event was held in the lakeside city of Puerto Varas, Chile.
Ten years have passed since that event and year after year Expolagos Patagonia has consolidated its position as the most important travel business event for southern Argentina and Chile and the Antarctic continent. Year after year, airlines, cruise ships, hotels, hostels, ski resorts, thermal resorts, golf clubs, health and spa centers, hotel chains, small businesses, service companies, adventure tours, artisans, the entire offer of Argentine and Chilean Patagonia are present in this boutique meeting that brings together the invited buyers, who are important tour operators from the seven continents.
The year 2025 will be the 11th edition and the chosen venue is the region of Aysen: the best kept secret of Patagonia. An area of fjords and glaciers, natural attractions such as the Carretera Austral, the marble caves, natural parks, ecological reserves, countless lakes and breathtaking landscapes that inspire the new trend of post-pandemic tourism: to live an experience.
That is what Expolagos Patagonia is all about, that hosted buyers come to do business, taking care of the environment and living the Patagonian experience.
The event is designed for professionals in the tourism industry (B2B) and those who apply to be invited will have their accommodation with breakfast at the host hotel, air transfers with important benefits, meals, 2 days of business round and networking activities included.
